I hope you've had a good day but if you're looking at a job site, perhaps not! In which case, let me tell you a bit about us. We are a fairly large private day nursery situated just off the Bath Road in Brislington. We are a family run nursery who have high expectations so are looking for caring, passionate and committed, qualified nursery practitioners to join the Abacus team. We are a very popular nursery which is full for over a year in advance.
The position is a full time permanent contract working 42.5 hours per week between the hours of 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. The age phase for this position is yet to be decided as it will be based on the skills and strengths of the applicant. The standard shift is either 8am-5pm or 8:30am-5:30pm or 9am-6pm.
We are well positioned for bus routes and there is free car parking on site for staff.
The position will be one in which the person has key children and will therefore be responsible to help support their key children's development, working closely alongside parents and the rest of the staff team to do this. Therefore good communication skills and the desire to work well as a team is essential.
A full level 3 or higher qualification is highly desirable for this post but we are willing to consider, for the right person, a level 2 qualified who are willing to undertake their level 3 training.
We consistently strive to provide childcare of the highest quality and we have made a firm commitment to embedding a Communication Friendly Spaces ethos across the whole nursery which results in a calming and purposeful learning environment. We want the nursery to feel like a home from home for the children and staff.
We use Tapestry as an online learning journey and staff are given regular opportunities to to upload their observations. We very much believe that staff shouldn't take work home with them so rest assured that we make sure it's all done in house. They are a great way for staff to show the wonderful things they do with the children. Therefore a good level of written ability is required for the role.
We like to provide enrichment opportunities for the children and in particular we do Forest School, Sing and Sign, Little Music Makers as well as weaving in other opportunities for enrichment based around seasonal events or cultural celebrations. People who are creative will love this position.
We love stories here so if you enjoy reading with the children and putting on funny voices or acting things out then get in touch!
We staff each room with an extra adult above and beyond ratio to enable things to run smoothly. This does mean we expect things to be done well and consistently. Looking after the environment through cleaning and tidying and ensuring supervision is excellent is a top priority. All staff who are employed at Abacus undergo a full and enhanced DBS check and must have two satisfactory references obtained. One of which must be your most recent employer. Candidates who are on the update service will not need a new DBS but will need to have their existing one checked.
Staff development is important so we ensure that there is a continuous rolling program of training opportunities including Pediatric First Aid, Level 2 Food hygiene, all relevant safeguarding as well room based/age phase training.
The position comes with 31 days annual leave entitlement inclusive of Bank Holidays.
New staff members are provided with free uniform initially; their first two tops and fleece/jumper. Additional uniform can be purchased if required.
Please do feel free to give me a call on 0117 9772868 to discuss the position in further detail or to arrange a tour to come and see us in action.
Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis as CVs come in so do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more. The interview process consists of filling in an application form, a full nursery tour, a stay and play followed by a professional discussion with the manager regarding your previous experiences and skills. We run these usually from 9-12 or 1:30-4:30pm. A full induction will be given covering our policies and procedures to ensure that you feel confident in how things are done here at Abacus.
